A1.1 Feelings, tools and trying again
Math thinkers try, check and try again
Some math feels hard at first. That is normal. When a problem feels big, you can stop, take a breath, and pick a tool — counters, a drawing, or your fingers.
Example
You are asked: How many is 7 and 5 together? You are not sure.
- Say: "I can try."
- Pick a tool: hold up 7 fingers, then count on 5 more.
- Check: count them all again. 12.
- If it was wrong, that is fine — try a different tool.
Remember: Asking for help and using a tool are smart moves, not cheating.
