A3.1 Science that solves problems at home
Example
Name the problem each one solves: a fridge, a raincoat, a smoke alarm.
- Fridge: food spoils when warm; cold slows spoiling.
- Raincoat: water soaks clothes; the coat's material lets water run off.
- Smoke alarm: smoke is hard to notice when asleep; the alarm senses it and makes a loud sound.
A3.2 Science with other subjects
Example
Plan a class garden using science, math and art together.
- Science: which plants need sun; what seeds need to sprout.
- Math: count seeds, measure the row, keep a growth chart.
- Art: draw the plan and make labels. The problem — growing food — needs all three.
A3.3 Ideas from many people and places
Science and technology come from many communities around the world, over a very long time. People everywhere noticed patterns in weather, learned which plants help, built shelters and boats, and passed the knowledge on. Today's tools grew from those ideas.

Name one thing we use that people figured out long ago, and how it helps today.
- Boats: people learned which shapes float and carry loads — today's ships use the same ideas.
- Knowing the seasons: when to plant and harvest — farmers still plan by it.
- Every idea was tested and shared; that is what science is.
