Example
Name the problem each solves: a water filter, a bike helmet.
- Water filter: dirt and germs in water make people sick; the filter traps them.
- Helmet: a fall can hurt your head; the foam squashes and takes the blow instead.

- Salt truck: ice makes roads slippery; salt lowers the temperature where water freezes, so ice melts.
A3.2 Science with other subjects
Example
Plan a bird feeder for the schoolyard using science, math, art and writing.
- Science: which seeds local birds eat; where squirrels cannot reach.
- Math: measure the wood; count birds each day in a tally chart.
- Art: draw the design. Writing: a sign that tells others what you learned.
A3.3 Contributions from many communities
Ideas in science and technology come from many communities around the world and across time. People learned which plants heal, how to build boats and shelters for their weather, how to keep food through winter, and how to read the sky for the seasons — and shared what worked.
Example
Choose one everyday thing and trace it back to people who figured it out long ago.
- Snowshoes: people in snowy places made wide frames so feet do not sink; today's snowshoes use the same idea.
- Drying and salting food: people learned it keeps food safe without a fridge; we still do it.
Remember: Every idea was tried, improved, and passed on — that is how science grows.
