Example
Say what bees and earthworms do.
- Bees carry pollen, so fruit trees make fruit, and they make honey people eat.
- Earthworms loosen the soil so roots push through, and pull dead leaves down to rot into soil.
Example
Say what mosquitoes do, and how a mosquito problem can be made smaller.
- Mosquitoes bite and can spread illness; tip out standing water where they lay their eggs, and fewer hatch.
B1.2 What people do to animals — and how to do less harm
Example
A road is built through a forest and trees are cut beside a creek. What happens to the animals, and what practice helps?
- Road: deer and foxes have to find somewhere else to live, and there may not be room; cars hit animals crossing.
- Trees cut by the creek: without shade the water gets too warm for the fish.
Remember: Helps: a wildlife tunnel under the road; leave the trees along the bank; plant bushes with berries the birds eat.
Summary

- Remove what a pest needs, and there are fewer of them.
