Example
Name the science each uses and the problem it solves: a paramedic, a carpenter framing a roof.
- Paramedic: knows which body system a symptom points to, so the right treatment starts in the ambulance.
- Carpenter: triangles in the roof trusses cannot change shape, so the roof carries snow without sagging.

Name the science a chef uses and the problem it solves.
- Chef: heating changes matter — batter becomes cake, a chemical change that cannot be undone — so timing and temperature decide the result.
A3.2 Science with other subjects
Example
Plan a school energy audit using science, math, language and geography.
- Science: which devices transform electricity into heat and light, and which dissipate the most as waste warmth.
- Math: read the meter daily; graph use across a week.
- Language: a report with recommendations. Geography: where the school's electricity is generated and from what source.
A3.3 Contributions from many communities
Science and technology grew from many communities. In this part of the world, people built birchbark canoes, planted the Three Sisters, and made carts with wheels a family could repair on the trail. In the far north, people carved snow goggles that cut the blinding glare off spring snow down to a thin slit of light.
Example
Explain the science in snow goggles and in a cart with repairable wooden wheels.
- Snow goggles: a narrow slit lets in only a little light, so the eyes are shielded from glare that would burn them.
- Repairable wheels: wood and rawhide, no metal, so a broken wheel is fixed on the trail with what is carried.
Remember: Both solve a problem with the materials at hand — tested and passed on.
